Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is no return to any state of existence. (Anattalakkhaṇasutta)

At one time the Buddha was staying near Benares, in the deer park at Isipatana. There the Buddha addressed the group of five mendicants:
“Mendicants!”
“Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:
“Mendicants, form is not-self. For if form were self, it wouldn’t lead to affliction. And you could compel form: ‘May my form be like this! May it not be like that!’ But because form is not-self, it leads to affliction. And you can’t compel form: ‘May my form be like this! May it not be like that!’
Feeling is not-self …
Perception is not-self …
Choices are not-self …
Consciousness is not-self. For if consciousness were self, it wouldn’t lead to affliction. And you could compel consciousness: ‘May my consciousness be like this! May it not be like that!’ But because consciousness is not-self, it leads to affliction. And you can’t compel consciousness: ‘May my consciousness be like this! May it not be like that!’
What do you think, mendicants? Is form permanent or impermanent?”
“Impermanent, sir.”
“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”
“Suffering, sir.”
“But if it’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, is it fit to be regarded thus: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”
“No, sir.”
“Is feeling permanent or impermanent?” …
“Is perception permanent or impermanent?” …
“Are choices permanent or impermanent?” …
“Is consciousness permanent or impermanent?”
“Impermanent, sir.”
“But if it’s impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?”
“Suffering, sir.”
“But if it’s impermanent, suffering, and perishable, is it fit to be regarded thus: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”
“No, sir.”
“So you should truly see any kind of form at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; coarse or fine; inferior or superior; far or near: all form—with right understanding: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’
Any kind of feeling at all …
Any kind of perception at all …
Any kind of choices at all …
You should truly see any kind of consciousness at all—past, future, or present; internal or external; coarse or fine; inferior or superior; far or near: all consciousness—with right understanding: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’
Seeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness. Being disillusioned, desire fades away. When desire fades away they’re freed. When they’re freed, they know they’re freed.
They understand: ‘Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is no return to any state of existence.’”
That is what the Buddha said. Satisfied, the group of five mendicants were happy with what the Buddha said. And while this discourse was being spoken, the minds of the group of five mendicants were freed from defilements by not grasping.

Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Baraṇasi in the Deer Park at Isipatana. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus of the group of five thus: “Bhikkhus!”
“Venerable sir!” those bhikkhus replied. The Blessed One said this:
“Bhikkhus, form is nonself. For if, bhikkhus, form were self, this form would not lead to affliction, and it would be possible to have it of form: ‘Let my form be thus; let my form not be thus.’ But because form is nonself, form leads to affliction, and it is not possible to have it of form: ‘Let my form be thus; let my form not be thus.’
“Feeling is nonself…. … Perception is nonself…. Volitional formations are nonself…. Consciousness is nonself. For if, bhikkhus, consciousness were self, this consciousness would not lead to affliction, and it would be possible to have it of consciousness: ‘Let my consciousness be thus; let my consciousness not be thus.’ But because consciousness is nonself, consciousness leads to affliction, and it is not possible to have it of consciousness: ‘Let my consciousness be thus; let my consciousness not be thus.’
“What do you think, bhikkhus, is form permanent or impermanent?”—“Impermanent, venerable sir.”—“Is what is impermanent suffering or happiness?”—“Suffering, venerable sir.”—“Is what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change fit to be regarded thus: ‘This is mine, this I am, this is my self’?”—“No, venerable sir.”

“Therefore, bhikkhus, any kind of form whatsoever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near, all form should be seen as it really is with correct wisdom thus: ‘This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.’
“Any kind of feeling whatsoever … Any kind of perception whatsoever … Any kind of volitional formations whatsoever … Any kind of consciousness whatsoever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near, all consciousness should be seen as it really is with correct wisdom thus: ‘This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.’
“Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple experiences revulsion towards form, revulsion towards feeling, revulsion towards perception, revulsion towards volitional formations, revulsion towards consciousness. Experiencing revulsion, he becomes dispassionate. Through dispassion his mind is liberated. When it is liberated there comes the knowledge: ‘It’s liberated.’ He understands: ‘Destroyed is birth, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more for this state of being.’”
That is what the Blessed One said. Elated, those bhikkhus delighted in the Blessed One’s statement. And while this discourse was being spoken, the minds of the bhikkhus of the group of five were liberated from the taints by nonclinging.
สมัยหนึ่ง พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ ป่าอิสิปตนมฤคทายวัน เขตพระนครพาราณาสี. ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียกภิกษุปัญจวัคคีย์ … แล้วตรัสว่า
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย รูปเป็นอนัตตา ก็หากรูปนี้จักเป็นอัตตาแล้วไซร้ รูปก็คงไม่เป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ ทั้งสัตว์ย่อมจะได้ตามความปรารถนาในรูปว่า ขอรูปของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย แต่เพราะเหตุที่รูปเป็นอนัตตา ดังนั้น รูปจึงเป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ และสัตว์ย่อมไม่ได้ตามความปรารถนาในรูปว่า ขอรูปของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เวทนาเป็นอนัตตา ก็หากเวทนานี้จักเป็นอัตตาแล้วไซร้ เวทนาก็คงไม่เป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ ทั้งสัตว์ย่อมจะได้ตามความปรารถนาในเวทนาว่า ขอเวทนาของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย แต่เพราะเหตุที่เวทนาเป็นอนัตตา ดังนั้น เวทนาจึงเป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ และสัตว์ย่อมไม่ได้ตามความปรารถนาในเวทนาว่า ขอเวทนาของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย สัญญาเป็นอนัตตา ก็หากสัญญานี้จักเป็นอัตตาแล้วไซร้ สัญญาก็คงไม่เป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ ทั้งสัตว์ย่อมจะได้ตามความปรารถนาในสัญญาว่า ขอสัญญาของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย แต่เพราะเหตุที่สัญญาเป็นอนัตตา ดังนั้น สัญญาจึงเป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ และสัตว์ย่อมไม่ได้ตามความปรารถนาในสัญญาว่า ขอสัญญาของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย สังขารเป็นอนัตตา ก็หากสังขารนี้จักเป็นอัตตาแล้วไซร้ สังขารก็คงไม่เป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ ทั้งสัตว์ย่อมจะได้ตามความปรารถนาในสังขารว่า ขอสังขารของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย แต่เพราะเหตุที่สังขารเป็นอนัตตา ดังนั้น สังขารจึงเป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ และสัตว์ย่อมไม่ได้ตามความปรารถนาในสังขารว่า ขอสังขารของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย วิญญาณเป็นอนัตตา ก็หากวิญญาณนี้จักเป็นอัตตาแล้วไซร้ วิญญาณก็คงไม่เป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ ทั้งสัตว์ย่อมจะได้ตามความปรารถนาในวิญญาณว่า ขอวิญญาณของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย แต่เพราะเหตุที่วิญญาณเป็นอนัตตา ดังนั้น วิญญาณจึงเป็นไปเพื่ออาพาธ และสัตว์ย่อมไม่ได้ตามความปรารถนาในวิญญาณว่า ขอวิญญาณของเรา จงเป็นอย่างนี้เถิด อย่าได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นว่าอย่างไร รูปเที่ยงหรือไม่เที่ยง.
ไม่เที่ยง ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง สิ่งนั้นเป็นทุกข์หรือเป็นสุขเล่า.
เป็นทุกข์ ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง เป็นทุกข์ มีความแปรปรวนเป็นธรรมดา ควรหรือหนอ ที่จะตามเห็นสิ่งนั้นว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นเรา นั่นเป็นอัตตาของเรา.
ไม่ควรเห็นอย่างนั้น ภันเต.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นว่าอย่างไร เวทนา … สัญญา … สังขาร … วิญญาณ เที่ยงหรือไม่เที่ยง.
ไม่เที่ยง ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง สิ่งนั้นเป็นทุกข์หรือเป็นสุขเล่า.
เป็นทุกข์ ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง เป็นทุกข์ มีความแปรปรวนเป็นธรรมดา ควรหรือหนอ ที่จะตามเห็นสิ่งนั้นว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นเรา นั่นเป็นอัตตาของเรา.
ไม่ควรเห็นอย่างนั้น ภันเต.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เพราะเหตุนั้นในเรื่องนี้ รูปอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง ทั้งที่เป็นอดีต อนาคตหรือปัจจุบันก็ตาม เป็นภายในหรือภายนอกก็ตาม หยาบหรือละเอียดก็ตาม เลวหรือประณีตก็ตาม อยู่ในที่ไกลหรือใกล้ก็ตาม รูปทั้งหมดนั้น เธอทั้งหลายพึงเห็นด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้อง ตามความเป็นจริงอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่ใช่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่อัตตาของเรา.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เวทนาอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง ทั้งที่เป็นอดีต อนาคต หรือปัจจุบันก็ตาม เป็นภายในหรือภายนอกก็ตาม หยาบหรือละเอียดก็ตาม เลวหรือประณีตก็ตาม อยู่ในที่ไกลหรือใกล้ก็ตาม เวทนาทั้งหมดนั้น เธอทั้งหลาย พึงเห็นด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้อง ตามความเป็นจริงอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่ใช่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่อัตตาของเรา.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย สัญญาอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง ทั้งที่เป็นอดีต อนาคต หรือปัจจุบันก็ตาม เป็นภายในหรือภายนอกก็ตาม หยาบหรือละเอียดก็ตาม เลวหรือประณีตก็ตาม อยู่ในที่ไกลหรือใกล้ก็ตาม สัญญาทั้งหมดนั้น เธอทั้งหลาย พึงเห็นด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้อง ตามความเป็นจริงอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่ใช่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่อัตตาของเรา.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย สังขารเหล่าใดเหล่าหนึ่ง ทั้งที่เป็นอดีต อนาคต หรือปัจจุบันก็ตาม เป็นภายในหรือภายนอกก็ตาม หยาบหรือละเอียดก็ตาม เลวหรือประณีตก็ตาม อยู่ในที่ไกลหรือใกล้ก็ตาม สังขารทั้งหมดนั้น เธอทั้งหลาย พึงเห็นด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้อง ตามความเป็นจริงอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่ใช่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่อัตตาของเรา.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย วิญญาณอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง ทั้งที่เป็นอดีต อนาคต หรือปัจจุบันก็ตาม เป็นภายในหรือภายนอกก็ตาม หยาบหรือละเอียดก็ตาม เลวหรือประณีตก็ตาม อยู่ในที่ไกลหรือใกล้ก็ตาม วิญญาณทั้งหมดนั้น เธอทั้งหลาย พึงเห็นด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้อง ตามความเป็นจริงอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่ใช่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่อัตตาของเรา.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกผู้ได้สดับแล้ว เห็นอยู่อย่างนี้ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในรูป ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในเวทนา ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสัญญา ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสังขาร ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณ เมื่อเบื่อหน่าย ย่อมคลายกำหนัด เพราะคลายกำหนัด ย่อมหลุดพ้น เมื่อหลุดพ้นแล้ว ย่อมมีญาณหยั่งรู้ว่า หลุดพ้นแล้ว ย่อมรู้ชัดว่า ชาติสิ้นแล้ว พรหมจรรย์อยู่จบแล้ว กิจที่ควรทำได้ทำเสร็จแล้ว กิจอื่นที่จะต้องทำเพื่อความเป็นอย่างนี้มิได้มีอีก ดังนี้.
พระผู้มีพระภาค ได้ตรัสอนัตตลักขณสูตรนี้จบลงแล้ว ภิกษุปัญจวัคคีย์ต่างมีใจยินดีชื่นชมภาษิตของผู้มีพระภาค ก็แหละเมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคกำลังตรัสไวยากรณภาษิตนี้อยู่ ภิกษุปัญจวัคคีย์ ก็มีจิตหลุดพ้นจากอาสวะ เพราะไม่มีอุปาทาน.
