They\u2019re conscientious about bad conduct by way of body, speech, and mind, and conscientious about having any bad, unskillful qualities.\u00a0This is called the power of conscience.<\/p>\n<p>And what is the power of prudence?\u00a0It\u2019s when a noble disciple is prudent. They\u2019re prudent when it comes to bad conduct by way of body, speech, and mind, and prudent when it comes to acquiring any bad, unskillful qualities.\u00a0This is called the power of prudence.<\/p>\n<p>And what is the power of energy?\u00a0It\u2019s when a mendicant lives with energy roused up for giving up unskillful qualities and embracing skillful qualities. They\u2019re strong, staunchly vigorous, not slacking off when it comes to developing skillful qualities.\u00a0This is called the power of energy.<\/p>\n<p>And what is the power of wisdom?\u00a0It\u2019s when a noble disciple is wise. Here, a noble disciple is endowed with faith. He places faith in the enlightenment of the Tath\u0101gata thus: \u2018The Blessed One is an arahant, perfectly enlightened, accomplished in true knowledge and conduct, fortunate, knower of the world, unsurpassed trainer of persons to be tamed, teacher of devas and humans, the Enlightened One, the Blessed One.\u2019 This is called the power of faith.<\/p>\n<p>(2) \u201cAnd what is the power of moral shame? Here, a noble disciple has a sense of moral shame; he is ashamed of bodily, verbal, and mental misconduct; he is ashamed of acquiring evil, unwholesome qualities. This is called the power of moral shame.<\/p>\n<p>(3) \u201cAnd what is the power of moral dread? Here, a noble disciple dreads wrongdoing; he dreads bodily, verbal, and mental misconduct; he dreads acquiring evil, unwholesome qualities. This is called the power of moral dread.<\/p>\n<p>(4) \u201cAnd what is the power of energy? Here, a noble disciple has aroused energy for abandoning unwholesome qualities and acquiring wholesome qualities; he is strong, firm in exertion, not casting off the duty of cultivating wholesome qualities. This is called the power of energy.<\/p>\n<p>(5) \u201cAnd what is the power of wisdom? Here, a noble disciple is wise; he possesses the wisdom that discerns arising and passing away, which is noble and penetrative and leads to the complete destruction of suffering. This is called the power of wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are the five trainee\u2019s powers. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train yourselves thus: \u2018We will possess the power of faith, a trainee\u2019s power; we will possess the power of moral shame, a trainee\u2019s power; we will possess the power of moral dread,\u00a0a trainee\u2019s power; we will possess the power of energy, a trainee\u2019s power; we will possess the power of wisdom, a trainee\u2019s power.\u2019 Thus,
