What four?\u00a0It\u2019s when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the body\u2014keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.\u00a0They meditate observing an aspect of feelings \u2026\u00a0mind \u2026\u00a0principles\u2014keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.\u00a0It\u2019s because of not developing and cultivating these four kinds of mindfulness meditation that the true teaching doesn\u2019t last long after the final extinguishment of the Realized One.\u00a0It\u2019s because of developing and cultivating these four kinds of mindfulness meditation that the true teaching does last long after the final extinguishment of the Realized One.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it is because the four establishments of mindfulness are developed and cultivated that the true Dhamma endures long after a Tathagata has attained final Nibb\u0101na. What four?<\/p>\n

Here, brahmin, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure in regard to the world. \u2026 feelings in feelings \u2026 mind in mind \u2026 phenomena in phenomena, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure in regard to the world.<\/p>\n

It is because these four establishments of mindfulness are not developed and cultivated \u2026 are developed and cultivated that the true Dhamma endures long after a Tathagata has attained final Nibb\u0101na.\u201d<\/p>\n
