And this is a way to understand how this is so.\u00a0Suppose there were totally and utterly no feeling for anyone anywhere.\u00a0That is, feeling born of contact through the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. When there\u2019s no feeling at all, with the cessation of feeling, would craving still be found?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, sir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why this is the cause, source, origin, and condition of craving, namely feeling.<\/p>\n<p>So it is, \u0100nanda, that feeling is a cause of craving. Craving is a cause of seeking. Seeking is a cause of gaining material possessions. Gaining material possessions is a cause of assessing. Assessing is a cause of desire and lust. Desire and lust is a cause of attachment. Attachment is a cause of ownership. Ownership is a cause of stinginess. Stinginess is a cause of safeguarding.\u00a0Owing to safeguarding, many bad, unskillful things come to be: taking up the rod and the sword, quarrels, arguments, and disputes, accusations, divisive speech, and lies \u2026 .<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a Bodhi<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Craving<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was said: \u2018With feeling as condition there is craving.\u2019 How that is so, \u0100nanda, should be understood in this way: If there were absolutely and utterly no feeling of any kind anywhere\u2014that is, no feeling born of eye-contact, feeling born of ear-contact, feeling born of nose-contact, feeling born of tongue-contact, feeling born of body-contact, or feeling born of mind-contact\u2014then, in the complete absence of feeling, with the cessation of feeling, would craving be gain; in dependence upon gain there is decision-making; in dependence upon decision-making there is desire and lust; in dependence upon desire and lust there is attachment; in dependence upon attachment there is possessiveness; in dependence upon possessiveness there is stinginess; in dependence upon stinginess there is safeguarding; and because of safeguarding, various evil unwholesome phenomena originate\u2014the taking up of clubs and weapons, conflicts, quarrels, and disputes, insulting speech, slander, and falsehoods \u2026 .<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a
