That is, the quelling of vanity, the removing of thirst, the abolishing of clinging, the breaking of the round, the ending of craving, fading away, cessation, extinguishment. Those who have confidence in the teaching of fading away have confidence in the best.\u00a0Having confidence in the best, the result is the best.<\/p>\n<p>The Sa\u1e45gha of the Realized One\u2019s disciples is said to be the best of all communities and groups. It consists of the four pairs, the eight individuals. This is the Sa\u1e45gha of the Buddha\u2019s disciples that is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world.\u00a0Those who have confidence in the Sa\u1e45gha have confidence in the best.\u00a0Having confidence in the best, the result is the best.<\/p>\n<p>These are the four best kinds of confidence.<\/p>\n<p>For those who, knowing the best teaching,<br \/>\nbase their confidence on the best\u2014<br \/>\nconfident in the best Awakened One,<br \/>\nsupremely worthy of a religious donation;<\/p>\n<p>confident in the best teaching,<br \/>\nthe bliss of fading and stilling;<br \/>\nconfident in the best Sa\u1e45gha,<br \/>\nthe supreme field of merit\u2014<\/p>\n<p>giving gifts to the best,<br \/>\nthe best of merit grows:<br \/>\nthe best lifespan, beauty,<br \/>\nfame, reputation, happiness, and strength.<\/p>\n<p>An intelligent person gives to the best,<br \/>\nsettled on the best teaching.<br \/>\nWhen they become a god or human,<br \/>\nthey rejoice at reaching the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/suttacentral.net\/an4.34\/en\/sujato\">https:\/\/suttacentral.net\/an4.34\/en\/sujato<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>English translation by Bhikkhu Bodhi<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBhikkhus, there are these four foremost kinds of confidence. Those who have confidence in the Buddha have confidence in the foremost, and for those who have confidence in the foremost, the result is foremost.<\/p>\n<p>(2) \u201cTo whatever extent there are phenomena that are conditioned, the noble eightfold path is declared the foremost among them. Those who have confidence in the noble eightfold path have confidence in the foremost, and for those who have confidence in the foremost, the result is foremost.<\/p>\n<p>(3) \u201cTo whatever extent there are phenomena conditioned or unconditioned, dispassion is declared the foremost among them, that is, the crushing of pride, the removal of thirst, the uprooting of attachment, the termination of the round, the destruction of craving, dispassion, cessation, nibb\u0101na. Those who have confidence in the Dhamma have confidence in the foremost, and for those who have confidence in the foremost, the result is foremost.<\/p>\n<p>(4) \u201cTo whatever extent there are Sa\u1e45ghas or groups, the Sa\u1e45gha of the Tath\u0101gata\u2019s disciples is declared the foremost among them, that is, the four pairs of persons, the eight types of individuals\u2014this Sa\u1e45gha of the Blessed One\u2019s disciples is worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of reverential salutation, the unsurpassed field of merit for the
